When you first require a mobility aid to help you get around, it’s often a situation you won’t have given a great deal of thought to – and probably not one you’d planned for.
Of course, much will depend on your level of disability. For instance, if you have reasonable mobility but are having difficulty bending down and picking things up, or getting items out of cupboards, then a grabber or reacher could make all the difference.
But if you find yourself in a position where you are physically disadvantaged, or insufficiently confident, to leave your property unaided – even with a walking stick – then a mobility scooter or electric wheelchair is probably the best solution.
Whenever you are diagnosed with a condition that necessitates a wheelchair, scooter, walker or rollator in order to stay mobile, it can take a little getting used to. So, initially, it often makes sense to plump for second hand mobility equipment – not just from a price perspective, but also to ensure that you are entirely comfortable and confident in the product itself.
Over the years, we have supplied all types of mobility aids for the elderly and, going second hand to start with, is something we would recommend whilst you adjust to your changed circumstances.
Second hand can be extremely affordable
Buying used mobility products can also be extremely cost effective. As an example, a new scooter costing in the region of £3000 new could be bought second hand for around £1000. Quite a saving!
Furthermore, all the used mobility scooters and wheelchairs we sell are supplied with a 6 month warranty and will have undergone a full service and repair by our team of engineers in our Alton workshop, prior to sale. So your equipment will be almost as good as new!
Try before you Buy
Another option worth considering is taking a scooter or wheelchair on a weekly hire arrangement, before making a long term equipment purchase. Scooter and electric wheelchair hire works out at around £80 per week and at just £30 a week for a standard wheelchair. If it’s clear that you will need your mobility equipment in the longer term, when you decide to buy, any money you have spent on hire will be deducted from the sales price.
