Although some of us are better at planning ahead than others, it’s human nature to leave things to the last minute. “I wish I’d thought of that sooner,” is a familiar phrase. It’s so much easier being wise after the event!
Of course, that’s not always as simple as it sounds. You may have no prior warning of when a disability aid will be called into action. An unforeseen accident or a health setback can be hard to predict – especially if there have been no indicated pre-conditions.
Nevertheless, if a family member or close friend is affected by a degenerative or debilitating condition, it can often be easier to put in place the necessary arrangements for the most suitable mobility equipment – well in advance. By which, we would suggest months rather than weeks.
Where this is the case, there really is no time like the present to start making plans – especially given the tricky supply issues currently affecting the entire UK mobility sector.
Why it’s best not to have any pre-conceived ideas about mobility equipment
It isn’t just the challenges surrounding reliable product delivery dates. Even without these uncertainties, we would always advise customers to take their time over making a purchase. You want to get it absolutely right! Even if you think you know what type of mobility aid would be the most appropriate, we would always advise having a detailed discussion with us first, so that we can ensure that your requirements are fully met. Once we have a clear picture of the mobility issues being faced, it then becomes easier to recommend a particular type of equipment.
For instance, you might believe that a self-propelled wheelchair is all that’s needed. You may find, however, that after trying one out in the showroom or at home, actually the effort to keep mobile is far more energy sapping than first envisaged.
Our aim is to ensure that you are matched with the optimal equipment to meet your requirements. An aid that provides you with both comfort and confidence and which future proofs your circumstances. This is best achieved with thorough planning. It may well be that a made-to-order product is what’s needed, rather than an off-the-shelf item. Until you put the equipment to the test, it’s impossible to know. That’s why ‘try before you buy’ is always the best policy!
Christmas is coming even earlier in 2021
Whilst the Christmas calendar will be just the same as always, planning ahead for the festive season will inevitably begin earlier this year. In fact, major retailers are already urging consumers to start stocking up.
For us, as specialists in the supply of mobility equipment for clients throughout Hampshire and Surrey, 2021 has thrown up different challenges.
As many of you will be aware, there are considerable supply chain issues affecting ranges arriving from overseas, which has been going on for most of this year. Regrettably, this trend looks set to continue.
In a “normal” year, we would suggest to clients who need wheelchairs and scooters in time for Christmas to get their orders in by around the third week in November, to allow a four-week turnaround. This year is going to be entirely different. Delivery delays running into many months at a time is the new norm, unfortunately, which means NOW is the time to make your preparations, if at all possible.
We can arrange showroom or at home appointments
So that we can assess the most practical and cost-effective product for your specific situation, we would advise you to book a showroom appointment straightaway. Alternatively, we can arrange a home visit, if this would be more handy for you. Please call us on 01420 549481 so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Conveniently located in Alton
Wherever you live in Hampshire or Surrey, Out and About is one of the premier centres for high quality mobility equipment. Based in Alton, this is great for local clients but we are also easily accessible for anyone living slightly further afield in places like Winchester, Basingstoke, Guildford or Farnham.
Update on Product Supplies
This may start to sound like a long-playing record but, despite our best efforts, there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight to our current supply issues. However, the good news is that we do have a healthy stock of Taima Rollators and Karma Wheelchairs, as well as a fully stocked showroom. To check availability, please call us on 01420 549481.
